Today feels like a good day to ...

Move into prose!

In eight days' time, my exams will be over and I'll be free at last to carry on with the historical novel I'd been joyfully writing before the need for revision caught up with me.

I still plan to post up a poem a day for a month this summer or maybe autumn - all depends on how much time is available to me when not novel-writing - but for the foreseeable future, I shall be concentrating on prose.

Anyone care to join me?

(I just completely mistyped that, for some reason, and came out with u jboe usr sre. Not a good omen for a new venture into prose!!)

Can't wait till my exams are over. Everything seems to be in limbo at the moment. This will be a very long week ...

Good luck with the exams, Jane.

I'm hoping to write prose this summer too. Mind you, I'm working on the same story since March so it may be a v SLOW process...

I had one novel, that ended up over 125,000 words long, over which I toiled, on and off, for about five years. I showed it to my then agent, who didn't like it, then to one or two other people, who also passed, and then became despondent about it. Having been written in several disparate chunks over a number of years, with first person POV changed to third, then back again, then back again to third, it had morphed into a totally different book by the end of the process, and from the comments I received, was probably just unpublishable. It was a mess!

One day ... if it's worth it ... which seems unlikely ... I'll look at it again.

Meanwhile, planning the whole novel in advance and sticking to the plan without too much deviation seems like the sensible thing for a rambling writer like me. ;)
